The art of SEO has been filled with many a marketing specialist and web design company extracting money out of a client for very little work and results. The reasons provided as to why a website doesn’t receive traffic are endless, but as small medium sized business we know nothing and tend to believe what the so called ‘experts’ say.
Perhaps SEO is dead in the usual way it’s performed. With social media becoming a source of information with users searching on twitter, facebook and YouTube to locate information without the usual straight to Google.
We’ve see a number of changes in the way Google returns search results over the last 12 months with a clear emphasise on localised results with more weight being placed on listings from Google places ( a must have tool for generating first page position ).
The notion of first page is now down to potentially a couple of results at the very bottom of the page for organic listings.
The basics still hold, keyword understanding specific for each page, quality content and relevant page titles.
With the inclusion of instant search which now builds the result as it goes it would seem that the page changes against every letter with google even providing suggestions as you type. So what of search, is SEO dead. In reality I feel the answer is clearly NO, but it needs to be more focused and targeted. The customer needs to understand it’s not about 1st page listings anymore, as users have the ability to influence the search results they see but about ensuring the correct message is displayed to the user when they search for relevant keywords.
Page Titles and content that’s focused and optimised will pay even more benefit – so hopefully we start to see less of quick fix SEO such as – fredblogs.com – about us – influencing the search results.
