White Hat and Black Hat SEO

The final session at SES Chicago looked at the position of black hat and White hat techniques in SEO. The panel was very interactive and animated. David Naylor from the UK gave some interesting comments. The discussions were in good heart and the interacted well.

The majority of the session revolved around the purchasing of links, was this black or White hat. The general concensus was how can you talk about purchasing links what is good , is a link from a governing body of an organisation or a chamber of commerce would be allowed but a purchased link on a website not. The majority of the panel swayed to buying links but do it sensibly and make sure the site has good link value, just don’t overdo it, this will bring attention to you.

The notion of black and White really turned into grey, the boundary was very thin and most SEO could be seen as being black at some point, if you take the view that every SEO tries to manipulate the rankings.

One good thing again from David Naylor was a girl who had first position rankings for a sight that has no backlinks, a new domain. The result was good quality content and well crafted page titles.
