We need to utilise our connections. Very often in business we fail to do this and become concerned about where we can find the resource we need to accomplish a task. A developed network enables us to do this.
Talking with a new client based in East Riding of Yorkshire reminded me that , ‘very often we miss opportunities to resource our businesses, because we don’t exploit our contacts’.
The client, has been referred through the Digital Catalyst programme based out of the Humber Business Growth Hub.
The client is a charity that operates a commercial arm as well. One of the areas identified for improvement is around social presence, improving reach and dissemination of information into the community, with the aim of growing volunteers and also commercial work.
They’re having an impact already, so the support is about getting them to make better use of platforms such as facebook, to showcase the work both with the volunteers as well as the people they help. Showing how they are changing the community in which they operate.
We spoke about resource and the use of video. Something that seems very daunting at this time as there are no resources in house with the required skills.
However, they are already taking work placements from the local college in their specific field. A simple suggestion to utilise the connections and see if they can also take work placements from the media course as well.
Its not mind-blowing but has the potential to enable them to develop the social presence, reach new potential volunteers and form relationships with businesses in the area that are looking for local projects to fulfil corporate social responsibility goals.
