July 1st will be a major date in the calendar for digital marketers and web analysts. Google are retiring the tool most business have been using for over 10 years to track website activity and replacing it with an improved measurement tool, fit the online world we see today.
UA will stop collecting data for those of us using the free version. To continue, we’ll have to migrate to GA4.
GA4 has a new look and feel with a large number of the reports and tables gone, giving a more focused environment to work in, simplifying the interface. The way users are tracked has changed and underneath the surface, the need to drop cookies is disappearing.User capture will use multiple different routes to track the usage and when it can’t get that data, in rolls a bit of machine learning to fill in the gaps.
Changes to reporting, segmentation, goals and also filters, there’s a lot to take in.Metrics we’ve used for years to measure effectiveness have been hidden away and we see new fields to track engagement within pages (a much better metric to be honest).
Make sure your team and business are ready, it’s not a case of turn off today and use GA4 tomorrow. The data isn’t migrated, due to the changes in user tracking. The goals and actions you have set up have to be migrated and checked to make sure they are working in GA4.
Don’t leave it to the last minute to make the change.Get started now so you have actionable data ready for July 2023.GA4 looks at the data and will pull out insights and make predictions based on the data captured. To make this useful you need to start now.
If you to know more then we can assist and help train your team either in-house or through an GA4 training course.
