Tax system explained in beer…. enlightening

The tax system explained in beer – an interesting view of the tax system.  I’m not going to take credit, got it off LinkedIn. Suppose that once a week, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to £100.If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this.. The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay £1. The

Social Media – measuring and tracking user engagement.

Social Media is becoming one of the most talked about topics within the small / medium sized business.  It’s become the next big must have piece of technology and in most cases businesses are becoming over whelmed by the numbers of marketing consultants offering to operate social media marketing campaigns. The typical you must be on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN as well as creating blogs and videos to improve your social reach very often ends

Tracking Page Speed in the latest version of Analytics

Spent the morning yesterday giving a 1:1 workshop on Google Analytics to a client. Having looked at the new version a couple of times, locating various functions via the new interface took some time, however we got there in the end. personalised mothers day gifts, something with a difference

Mothers day has just passed and giving a gift that is personalised and something with a difference giving that little extra will make your mother very happy, and it makes a change to flowers. It’s not just about mothers day though, what about being able to capture that special moment in your life and give it as a gift to someone special.  It could be your football team playing at Wembley, a hockey team winning

How to select keywords for effective SEO, techniques and scoring

Keywords are one of the most important things to get right when creating pages for your website. How exactly do you identify and select keywords for effective SEO and come up with useful sets of phrases to use to create content. Over the past week or so I’ve been working on a presentation for the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce on Search Engine Optimisation. Working through various posts and videos on selecting keywords I’ve come up

Is SEO dead? Or does it just mean an opportuinty for people to scam you?

The art of SEO has been filled with many a marketing specialist and web design company extracting money out of a client for very little work and results. The reasons provided as to why a website doesn’t receive traffic are endless, but as small medium sized business we know nothing and tend to believe what the so called ‘experts’ say. Perhaps SEO is dead in the usual way it’s performed. With social media becoming a

Do i need a blog or a website – which is better

An interesting question, and is there a difference. A blog is a lot easier to get started via tools such as wordpress and googles blogger. Both tools enable the user to easily create standard web pages within the structure as well as have the power of using blogs as well. You can use both tools from google and wordpress to create a site and it enables you to point a domain name at the site.

Google changing the title of a page to make it more relevant

I’ve spent today carrying out a website assessment for a Technology @ Work client for the National B2B Centre.  When reviewing how the site appears in the search engines, to my surprise the page titles in the SERPS results all showed additional words prefixing the title that had been set in the page code.  A bit baffled by this, time to search for the reason. The site is a typical website and all page titles

how useful are blogs for getting search engine position and traffic?

For the past week I’ve been posting on a number of blogs trying to get good position in the search engine listings.  I’ve spent years talking about SEO and the how to, probably anout time I actual sat and done some proper work and show it works. 1 example of how it’s worked. A couple of us at the B2B Centre have our own interests outside of work and we noticed the Gareth with his
